Getting Here

Sitting on the edge of a pier gazing at the boats bobbing in the distance with your toes dipping in the gentle waves, you will feel a million miles from civilization, let alone a major airport. Most people are surprised at how easy it is to get to our pristine alpine lake nestled high in the Sierra.

San Francisco is an easy 4-hour drive along I-80, Sacramento is less than two hours away, and the Reno-Tahoe International Airport is less than an hour away from The Lake. The Truckee-Tahoe Airport (TRK) is open to all aircraft (though there is no scheduled service). There is charter service and maintenance available. For more information, call (530)587-4119.

Bus
Greyhound (800-231-2222) provides bus service to Truckee, where you can take TART to your destination, and to Reno where you can hop on a shuttle.

Car
From Reno: There are two options, one takes you through the historic town of Truckee and the other winds up the Mt. Rose Highway into the community of Incline Village.

  1. Follow Hwy. 395 south until you see signs for the Mt. Rose, Hwy. 431 exit. Take it and follow the highway as it curves over the summit and then back down to The Lake. You will dead-end at a T junction where a left turn will take you to Incline Village and Tahoe's serene East Shore, and a right turn will take you into California's North Shore communities.

  2. Get on Hwy. 395 and follow it north to I-80, where you will go west (left). Follow the Interstate for about 20 miles until you see signs for Truckee. To go to Tahoe City or the West Shore, take the exit for Highway 89 and follow it south past Squaw Valley into Tahoe City. If you are heading to any place between Incline Village and Tahoe City, take the first exit for Highway 267. Take a left after the off ramp, then another left at the next stop sign. Follow 267 over the summit and down to The Lake into Kings Beach.

From San Francisco or Sacramento: Follow I-80 eastbound until you reach your Truckee exit. (see above.)

Train
Amtrak provides service to Truckee. For reservations and information, check out their website (www.amtrak.com), or call (800)872-7245.
