The Dornier Do-24ATT prepares to land on Lake Tahoe during
a visit to the region in 2005. The Dornier is piloted by Cpt. Iren Dornier
to support the United Nations Children’s Fund and in honor of his
grandfather, Dr. Claude Dornier, who designed it for the Dutch government
in the early 1930s as a flying boat. It was one of the world’s most
interesting seaplanes, and while it won’t be part of this year’s
Opening Day on the Lake celebrations, other seaplanes will be landing off
Obexer’s on Homewood on May 28 as part of the celebrations. For information
on the Dornier, visit do-24.com. Photography by David Rose, DavidRosePhotography.net.
